"Brewing Scandal" reveals a bombshell: Political motivations
From the "brewing scandal" rocking the Bredesen administration, a new potential bombshell has been revealed that ties the illegal, unauthorized background searches to political motives. Terry Frank has the details.
Illegal, unauthorized background searches. Expunged documents leaked. Locked state legislative offices entered at night by political operatives. Political opponents targeted.
"A creepy abuse of power." As allegations emerge that members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol illegally accessed the criminal background check system to violate the privacy of innocent Tennesseans, questions go unanswered by Governor Phil Bredesen and his administration.
As many as 300 individuals may have had their backgrounds probed for political purposes by Lt. Ronnie Shirley, a Bredesen administration crony, who was previously best known for fixing a ticket for the then Deputy Governor. These illegally obtained documents are reminiscent of Watergate and threaten the trust Tennesseans have in their chief executive.
